Are you part of a wedding party and have to plan a stag and doe party? The stag and doe (or buck and doe) is a tradition popular in Southern Ontario. Other terms for this event is a Jack and Jill party. The idea is to help raise money for the bride and groom to pay off the wedding.
Generally speaking, stag and doe parties are held at banquet halls or cultural centers. Not that they have to be, but they usually are. Halls can cost up to $500 to rent and usually someone involved with the group that owns the hall tends bar. This is the first major chunk of money that you will need to recoup.
Hire a DJ
Chances are that you'll need to hire a DJ as well. This can run a few hundred dollars. However, DJs are generally good at promoting party games and raffle tickets, so it might be worthwhile to hire one. If you know someone with excellent sound equipment and a load of CDs that everyone will enjoy then you should cozy up to them. Otherwise hit the internet to find the perfect DJ!
Advertise in the Paper
Print up some professional-looking tickets. Posters work as well as does advertising in a rubbish removal newspaper. Don't be afraid to ask people who don't know the bride and groom that well to buy tickets. Very often they have been in the same situation and will buy a ticket even if they don't attend. Prices are around $5 usually.
Stag and Doe Themes
You can also choose to have a theme for your stag and doe. Luau themes are fun. So are Mexican themes. This can also depend on the bride and groom's personalities. Do they have a passion that can translate to a great party theme? Go for it!
Stag and Doe Party Games
You would be hard pressed to find a stag and doe party that doesn't have some sort of 50/50 draw. People are generally good about buying tickets and it's an easy way to rake in a little extra cash. Crown and Anchor games are also popular. You can also try having a blackjack table.
Prizes are an important incentive of the stag and doe. These can vary. For one, you can try alcohol. Grills (for the big prize) and all sorts of goodies. But remember, this is yet another expense that needs to be recouped.
Stag parties aren't cheap. Bet on spending about $1, 000 on it. But if you run it right, you can recoup all that money and come out ahead. Good luck!
